I purchased the 600D at Christmas last year and it's been a great starter camera with much room for me to improve into. I have since purchased the 100mm macro and 50mm lenses from canon. I also put magic lantern on one of my sd cards. I know many other people at school (since purchasing the camera) who also use the 600d as a first dslr and love it.
Re: wich memory card for 600D. Canon writes full HD video at the rate of about 5.3 MB/sec, making 30 MB/sec cards an overkill. Even branded class 6 cards easily handle such rate. The number of shots you can take in a burst depends pretty much only on the size of the camera's internal buffer.
